Profile
I am LEITHLAND RICKIE TULLOCH. I was born in Connors District, in the parish of St. Catherine, Jamaica W.I. and migrated to the U.S.A in 1976.
I attended Erasmus Hall H.S and Brooklyn College from which I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Accounting and a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Economics. As a product of a small village, I know the importance of community building and participation and in 1991 I joined Community Board 17.
For the last seventeen (17) years I have been a member of Community Board 17 and served in several capacities. I served seven (7) years as Land Use Chair where the highlight of my accomplishments was the implementation of the process to rezone areas of Community Board 17 to retain the essence and fabric of the community.
In addition, I continue to be an advocate for the down zoning of areas within Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood and Crown Heights that are vulnerable for over-development, which could possibly overburden the social fabric of the communities, e.g. school overcrowding.
I was also the Treasurer of Community Board 17 for three (3) years; former Chairman of the Board of Directors for Flatbush Action Community Daycare Center where I acquired supplemental funding to improve the educational needs of the center; Treasurer of the Board of Managers for Second Erasmus Condominium; Founder, Former President and currently Vice President of Ginger Ridge Past Students Association; Former Board Member of Erasmus Neighborhood Federation; member of the 67th Precinct Council, Kings County South Civic Association and the West Indian-American Progressive Action Council.
I continue to be an active member of several political clubs and other community organizations.
I co-sponsored the Co-naming of Church Avenue to Bob Marley Boulevard because I understood the positive and significant cultural impact this would have on the community and the potential economic revitalization of Church Avenue.
